2018 Goals and Guesses

We had another child last year, which was the big highlight. It turns out that keeping kids healthy is not a good goal, since you can't control when or if they are sick. Caring for them and teaching them is a much better aim.

  • Potty train a kid

This goal is for me as much has it's for my son. We both benefit from him being out of diapers, and while I know the transition can be messy, it's a step in the right direction. I'm looking forward to this change.

  • More exercise

Hockey has turned out to be a great fit for me. Between the physical exercise (usually 800 calories an hour) and the competition, camaraderie, and beer, it's enjoyable all around. I'm playing twice a week now, and would like to increase my active days to 4 a week.

  • Fewer distractions

I don't do Facebook, but I still find myself distracted by news and other things that I have little interest in or control over. The political climate may be partially to blame, but if the point is to be less distracted, I need to prevent external factors from impacting that. I'm hoping to trade my twitter time in for more pics of real-life friends in Instagram or texting with family.

I'm excited for what 2018 will mean for work. We've grown the team again and I'm really pumped to be working with so many talented people. I would guess we're able to accomplish quite a bit together this year.

I'd also guess that I'm able to read more books in 2018 than in previous years. Many of my past years reading were spent with audiobooks, which has decreased since I started working from home. I'm hoping to find more interest in paperback books as both entertainment and relaxation. Many people I admire are big readers, and I currently spend plenty of time reading blog posts and articles, so I'd just need to refocus that time into a book instead of carving out new time.
